The short version

ABBY runs on your device. There is no ABBY account and no ABBY server. The Bible texts, your notes, bookmarks, reading plan, and settings never leave your phone unless you choose to share them.

What stays on your device

• The six bundled texts (ASV, ERV, KJV, WEB, Book of Mormon, Small Catechism).
• Your notepad entries, bookmarks, history, saved searches, and reading plan.
• Verse-reminder settings, quiet hours, theme, and voice preferences.
• Phone numbers you add for verse sharing.
• Your OpenAI API key, if you enter one.

None of this is transmitted to us. We do not operate a server that receives it.

Microphone

ABBY uses the microphone only while you hold or toggle a listening button, to turn your speech into text for commands, search, and notepad dictation. Recognition is handled by your device's speech recognizer. ABBY does not record audio to a file and does not upload audio anywhere.

Aila (optional AI feature)

Aila is off unless you enter your own OpenAI API key.

When you use it, the text of your question and the relevant verse context are sent over HTTPS to OpenAI (api.openai.com) using your key. OpenAI's handling of that text is governed by their privacy policy at https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy. We do not receive a copy.

Your key is stored encrypted on your device using Android's hardware-backed keystore, is excluded from cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, and is never sent anywhere except to OpenAI as the authorization header of your own requests. You can delete it at any time: SET → Aila key → Clear.

Contacts and text messages

ABBY does not hold the SMS or Contacts permissions and cannot read your messages or your contact book.

When you add a verse recipient, Android's own contact picker returns a single number you selected. When you tap SEND SMS NOW, ABBY opens your normal messaging app with the verse and those numbers filled in; you review it and send it yourself. ABBY cannot send a message on its own.

Notifications

Verse reminders are generated on your device from the bundled text at the interval you choose. No network request is involved.

Children

ABBY is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from them.

Analytics, ads, and tracking

None. This build contains no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK, and no third-party crash reporter.

Deleting your data

• Remove your OpenAI key: SET → Aila key → Clear.
• Remove everything: Android Settings → Apps → ABBot → Storage → Clear data, or uninstall the app.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the current version is always available at this URL.
